Custom WWII German 98 Mauser Bolt Action Rifle by Pfeifer Rifle Co., #5195Y, .270 Win. cal., 22" heavy sporter barrel, blue finish. Smooth walnut one-piece left-handed Monte Carlo stock with exotic wood forend tip and grip cap, sling swivel studs, cheekpiece, ending with a ventilated rubber recoil pad; providing a 13.5" LOP. There is no provision for sights. Bolt handle is a replacement; bolt and magazine follower are jeweled. Factory markings are clear, marked "PFEIFER RIFLE Co. / ROSCOE, CALIF" on the left side of the barrel. Topped with Redfield one-piece mount, rings, and a Hensoldt-Wetzlar Dialytan fixed 4x rifle scope with blued finish, and single post reticle. Scope is in very good condition, showing moderate signs of age and thinning finish; optics are clear and bright. Rifle is in fine overall condition as customized, retaining approx. 90%-95% toning finish, with light wear at the muzzle, edge wear, and scattered handling marks. Stock is in fine condition, with indentations and scuffs, showing some white paint on the left side. Action functions smoothly with a crisp trigger. Bright bore is good with sharp rifling. The Pfeifer Rifle Co. was a well-regarded custom gunsmithing and barrel making shop, active in Southern California in the 1950's.
